First Grade Intervention
Eagle Time: Every day, first grade has a block of time in which all students receive 25 minutes of literacy instruction at their instructional level. Some students remain in the classroom with their classroom teacher, while others go to other classrooms to work with interventionists in research-based intervention programs. Individual students' response to each intervention is carefully monitored, and instruction is modified as needed to best meet each student's needs.
Interventions During Eagle Time Include:
•SRA Horizons: Horizons is an innovative program for teaching reading that provides solid, systematic instruction using proven direct instruction techniques, updated with current research on beginning reading. A unique instructional sequence incorporates word attack, story reading, comprehension exercises, spelling, and independent work on a daily basis to ensure success. Horizons builds a solid foundation for fluency and comprehension by systematically teaching phonemic awareness and phonics.
